Our annual awards evening took place last week on Thursday 5th January and we had our best ever turnout with standing room only. The evening celebrated the success of our students in Year 11 with subject awards for best progress and achievement, Year 12 for their GCSE results and our students who took A level examinations last summer. There were also special awards for students from Year 11 upwards.
Mrs Teresa Mellon, the widow of the school's first Headteacher, was present to oversee the presentation of the Harry Mellon Awards to Shannon Yates and Holly Morrison.
Other awards were:
Best GCSE results – Andrew Finn Best A level Results – Daniel Molloy Sports Personality of the Year – Rebecca Gavin Sports Leader of the Year – Joseph O'Toole Coventry University Prize – Maria Parry 100% Attendance awards (For 100% attendance from year 7 to 11) – Curtis Broome and Liam Greene
Matthew Lockheed Trophy – Alice Robinson Chaplaincy Awards – Mitchel Howe, Eleanor Davis, Anna Dwyer, Alice Robinson Citizenship Awards – Hannah Hoey, Kieran Liggins, Gabriela Goralczyk, Samantha Tarver
Music was provided by Eleanor Davis, Kane Collins and Alice Robinson. Our guest of honour was Professor Patrick Dunne who inspired us all to share our natural gifts with others as he spoke about his project "Warwick in Africa" which he set up to encourage Maths graduates to spend time teaching students and teachers in South Africa. His talk reminded us all that we should not take our education for granted.
The vote of thanks was given by Andrew Mee. Staff, parents, guests and former students enjoyed refreshments in the Sixth Form Common Room at the end of the presentations.
Thanks also go to Mrs Bevan, Mrs Dwyer, Mr Shaw, Mrs Aston, Mrs Grearson, Mr Courtney and Mr Hall for the excellent administration and organisation of the event.
